Coldplay want EMI.
As it was informed, Coldplay are looking to follow Radiohead and Paul McCartney in leaving EMI Records.
The group sign five albums with the help of Parlophone records and are currently putting the finishing touches to their fourth album, recorded in Spain, the UK and America, for release this summer. And with a greatest hits album due in 2009, next year could see the indie rockers free to sign a new deal with another label.
A number of leading industry pundits have predicted this year could see the serious decline of all four of the major labels as they struggle to deal with a rapidly changing business climate. Some are even speculating one company could hit the wall as it struggles to maintain profits.
Today there's so much uncertainty in the record industry. The boys don't necessarily need a label any more. They aren't even considering putting pen to paper on any type of contract until they see what happens.

An incident in The Shins.
Marty Crandall, keyboardist in The Shins, has been released from jail just over 48 hours after he was arrested over an alleged incident involving his girlfriend.
Crandall and his girlfriend Elyse Sewell, were taken into custody last Friday (January 4th) following an argument in a Sacramento hotel. She is a well known Top Model and television star.
It’s understood that Police were called to the hotel by staff shortly after the argument broke out. News of the couples arrest first emerged after Sewell posted a picture of a bruised arm online, claiming it showed injuries she sustained in the incident. According to the Sacramento County district attorney's office both Crandall and Sewell will appear in court later today (January 8th).
The post, on the blog site LiveJournal, has been blocked pending legal investigation.
In a statement, The Shins’ record label, Subpop, said: 'There will be no further comment at this time and we would appreciate their privacy being respected." |
